John Truslove helps fostering agency find a new home

A foster care agency, determined that the needs of children should be paramount, has expanded into new premises in Bromsgrove.

In a deal advised by property agents John Truslove, Children Always First has taken 2,600 sq ft at Ladybird Barn, Old Burcot Lane, moving from rented offices in the town.

Run by directors Julie Elliott and Jan Blazak, it arranges fostering for in excess of 65 children at any one time ranging in age from babies through to teenagers.

The new facility caters for administration and training, as well as somewhere children can be supported.

The business employs 50 carers, 19 full-time staff and a specialist therapist.

It has contracts with 14 local authorities – Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Dudley, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire, Stoke, Birmingham, Walsall, Telford & Wrekin and Sandwell.

Ian Parker, a director of John Truslove, said: “Children Always First is a wonderful organisation, doing a tremendously difficult but important job.

“These are fully refurbished offices in a prime location and I am so pleased they have been taken for such vital work.”

Mr Blazak said: “We looked at a lot of places and Ian was incredibly patient.

“But we are extremely happy here. The facilities are excellent – just what we were looking for. And crucially it offered a large car park, one of our particular needs.”

Children Always First is a small independent fostering agency which does not intend to get any bigger because it wants to keep a family feel.

Mr Blazak went on: “We do exactly what the name suggests – put the needs of children first.

“We operate exclusively in the West Midlands and offer a family placement service that genuinely provides the very highest levels of support for carers and strives to achieve the very best outcomes for children and young people.

“We really do care about each individual child or young person placed with us and our carers who look after them.

“We don’t want to become some massive national organisation where we lose touch with our carers and children. We want to know everyone by name and sight and value them and their contribution properly. We invest time, money and training in our staff and carers and that is what makes us different and better.”

Children Always First says it receives ten times more referrals than it is able to place.

“That is because we are pretty much at the cutting edge,” added Mr Blazak. The organisation operates a therapeutic parenting model and are the first organisation in the country to become a DDP certified as a consequence.
