Employment agency moves to historic Redditch site, helped by John Truslove

Expanding employment agency Red Recruitment Group Ltd has moved into Redditch’s historic British Mills complex, with the help of commercial property agents John Truslove.

Red Recruitment specialises in the supply of staff to commercial, driving and industrial sectors, for warehousing, manufacturing or offices based roles, on a temporary and permanent basis.

A growing need for temporary workers meant Red Recruitment had been looking for a new, more central location in Redditch to improve its ability to attract candidates.

James Martin, the owner of Red Recruitment, said: “We started to look for new premises in February last year, working with the team at John Truslove.

“We were based on Arthur Street in Lakeside but we had felt for some time that we needed to be more central for a better footfall of candidates, especially due to the nature of our business.”

One of the properties they looked at was 6 Empire Court, an office suite off Prospect Hill and part of the historic Grade II-listed British Mills complex, made famous in the best-selling novel Young Jethro by Redditch author Roy Clews.

The landmark site is a handsome and refurbished red brick, three-storey building, with elegant cast iron curved headed windows, which dominates Albert Street.

Inside it has been refurbished as open plan office suites with private offices, meeting rooms and a kitchenette. Suite 6 extends to 1,214 sq ft on the first floor and comes with car parking spaces.

Mr Martin said: “We reviewed a few properties before seeing Empire Court and we loved it, but COVID hit, and we felt it wasn’t right to move at that time with all the uncertainties.

“However, we were very lucky because after the slow first few months we saw our company get busier and busier with lots of our clients increasing their temporary labour demands.

“Early October, we decided to revisit the move, we spoke to Ian Parker at John Truslove, we reviewed our strategy and decided to sign the contracts. We moved into the property in November and have not regretted it since.”

He added: “The location is perfect – close to the town centre and bus routes for candidates to get to us. We love the open plan, brick effect office. We are very happy with the move.”

Ian Parker, joint managing director at the John Truslove, secured Red Recruitment Group’s tenancy on a five-year lease for the landlord.

He said: “Red Recruitment is a thriving company that has continued to grow even during the testing times of the last year.

“It clearly saw the benefits of higher profile premises near to the heart of Redditch town centre and the move has proved a success for all parties involved.

“The former British Mills site has become a highly attractive base for a number of businesses.

“In the heyday of the Redditch needle industry British Mills was a large needle and fish-hook factory and it remains a building with style and kudos. It has been refurbished to a high standard but still maintains its original character.”
