Forty years on the racing line for John Truslove Chartered Surveyors

Four decades of clients, colleagues and professional contacts gathered at Ragley Hall, near Alcester in Warwickshire to celebrate 40 years of the business founded by John Truslove in Redditch in 1982.

At a gala dinner held in the Main Hall, guests were entertained by the original “Stig” from Top Gear, Perry McCarthy, who regaled his audience with tales of his time as the masked man of TV’s most popular motoring show.

It was an astute choice of speaker, reflecting father and son John and Ben Truslove’s love of motor racing, started by John in historic grand prix and saloon racing and now continuing with Ben at the wheel of the John Truslove-sponsored Ford Lotus Cortina.

The pair are sharing the drive in the CTCRC Pre-66 Touring Cars & Group 1 Touring Car Championship.

But it was back in 1981 that John Truslove took the decision to launch his own property consultancy, and in 1982 the business opened, initially based in Alvechurch before moving to its long term home in Daralbee House in Archer Road, Redditch.

The business grew steadily and in 1996, the current joint managing director Ian Parker joined the firm as a surveyor and valuer and John Truslove became the “go-to” firm in north Worcestershire and neighbouring Warwickshire, with John becoming known in the town’s professional and business community as “Mr Redditch” for his in-depth knowledge of all things property in the area.

John’s son Ben, now joint managing director with Ian Parker, joined the firm in 2012, having gained experience as the most active acquisition surveyor within NFU Mutual’s property team.

In the past decade the firm has grown to win a well-deserved reputation as one of the leading independent business property consultants in the Midlands, with long term clients now represented by the third and fourth generation in some family firms.

The dinner to commemorate 40 years of John Truslove was a double celebration for Ben as he was ranked second most successful dealmaker in the UK in the 2021 EG Radius On-Demand Rankings.

He negotiated 89 sales and lettings during the year in a top ten dominated by partners from all the UK’s leading property agencies. He was the top industrial and commercial property agent in the West Midlands. The agency, John Truslove, came first in Worcestershire and third in Warwickshire.

It follows on the success from 2020 when the firm was named Most Active Agent in Worcestershire in the Radius Data Exchange survey produced in conjunction with EG, the commercial property market magazine.

Joint managing director Ian Parker was also named Worcestershire Dealmaker of the Year AND Warwickshire Dealmaker of the Year for 2020. The survey year, which runs from August to August, saw John Truslove record a 36% increase in deals negotiated over the 12 months.
