Together they combed the area to find the right premises for a new barber’s shop

A friendship stretching back over 25 years has seen two good mates team up to launch a new barbers shop in the Warwickshire town of Alcester.

Roman Shears is the new venture of James Dudley, a well-known local barber who has decided to set up his own business.

And when looking for the right premises, he called up his long-time friend Ben Truslove, joint managing director of John Truslove, the area’s leading commercial property agents.

James said: “Setting up on my own for the first time has been a steep learning curve, but I knew I had Ben in my corner, providing property advice and guidance. The landlord has been really helpful too, and good to work with.

“I’ve been a barber all my working life – since 1993 – and most recently have been working at Alcester Barber Shop. It’s a great place and I have real respect for everyone working there, but I felt that this was the right time if I was ever going to strike out on my own. So it’s been a little bittersweet.

“I’m very excited to be opening the new barber’s shop. We’ve worked hard in recent weeks getting it ready and I’ve got a really good young barber, Jacob Davies, joining me.”

Ben Truslove helped James seal a three-year lease on 19 Church Street in Alcester. The ground floor in the middle of a Grade II listed terrace, it provides 591 sq ft of space in the heart of Alcester town centre opposite St Nicholas’ Church.

The name “Roman Shears” is a nod to the thriving market town’s historic roots.

Ben Truslove said: “I was delighted to be able to help an old friend and provide one of our landlord clients with an excellent tenant. Matching the right tenant with the right landlord is key to what we do; being able to help a friend launch his business was an added benefit.

“James has decades of experience as a barber and his new business will be a great addition to Alcester’s town centre.”

John Truslove was recently named top commercial property agency in Worcestershire again – for the third year in a row. The company, now in its 42nd year, left the competition standing.

In 2022, John Truslove signed off 77 deals, more than all the other top five agents in Worcestershire combined. In Warwickshire, John Truslove ranked fifth. The figures are revealed in the latest EG Radius On-Demand Rankings, the property trade national league table of commercial agents.
